Literary Essay On The Skin I’m In

   Sharon G. Flake. ” The Skin I’m In ”. The main character of Skin I’m In is Maleeka. Maleeka has been bullied because of her dark skin, homemade clothes, good grades, and nappy hair. She gets bullied at McClinton middle school. Maleeka starts to learn that she needs to love herself and don’t let nobody gets under her dark beautiful skin. The theme to this book is that to not let nobody bully you.

   From the beginning Maleeka gets bullied because of her dark skin and clothes. John-john made a song about her and it really hurt her feelings. Then char brings Maleeka clothes cause she doesn’t want to be seen with a girl with homemade clothes. ”But even those hundred  dollar pant suits she brought in for me can’t make up for the hurt I feel when she slaps me with her mean words. Maleeka ignore what char and john-john says about her but it’s still hurts her feelings.

   From the beginning to the middle Maleeka is trying to change a lit bit. The bully’s starts talking about her nappy hair. So Maleeka had wanted something different. She cuts her hair so people can stop talking about her at least. When Maleeka goes to school the precise day and her feelings was really hurt. She had wished she never cut her hair.

   From the middle to the end Maleeka starts to stick up for herself. Maleeka and Caleb starts to talk again. Maleeka and Char stop being friends. `
